Board of Trustees
Leading in partnership with you
The Board of Trustees manages the affairs, funds, records, and property of the congregation. They have regularly scheduled meetings which are publicized on the calendar of events, unless the meetings are executive sessions.
Any member of the congregation can approach any board member at any time with concerns or desires for the congregation. The board will also approach their members to obtain opinions on congregational matters to ensure the members approve and feel fulfilled with their experience with the congregation.
The Board is also in charge of hiring staff (maintenance, housekeeping, temple coordination, etc.) It also is their responsibility to seek Rabbinical Staff, as needed, and seek approval from their members.

Meet The Board

Jen Ruben
President - president@levshalomaz.org

Jen Ruben grew up in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Flagstaff in 2010 from Brooklyn, New York. Jen is currently working as a family law attorney at her own firm, The Law Office of Jennifer B. Ruben, and loves her job. She has no pets, but two kids who keep her very busy. Jen has two favorite things about CLS: a Jewish community that supports both her son and her daughter, and ending a busy week at Shabbat services with friends singing familiar songs with ancient melodies.

Ron Borkan
Vice President - vicepresident@levshalomaz.org

Ron grew up in Princeton, New Jersey but has called Flagstaff home since 1990, even though we moved away to Oregon for 11 years. Ron is a past Treasurer, Co-President, and a founder of Congregation Lev Shalom. He is retired and enjoys traveling with his wife Linda and visiting his three adult children, their partners, and most importantly his granddaughter. What he likes best about CLS is its resilience over the many years of its existence and the dedication of its members.

Eli Cohen
Treasurer - treasurer@levshalomaz.org

Eli Cohen was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, in a family steeped in social and communal service traditions. Following the completion of a B.Sc. in Actuarial Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Manitoba, Eli has worked in the Insurance, Financial Services, and IT industries for over 30 years. On a communal level, Eli has been a volunteer and participant in one form or another since his early teens. Upon reaching Flagstaff in 2013, he made the decision to lend his skills to a variety of local non-profit organizations and campaigns spanning the fields of civic engagement, social justice, environmental sustainability, the arts, education, and healthcare. It is Eli's belief that both personal and shared community are strengthened by the participation and inclusion of all a community’s members. He is proud to help grow that vision here in his new home.

David Miggins
Secretary - secretary@levshalomaz.org

Long time board member, past President and current Secretary, David Miggins grew up in New York City and has called Northern Arizona home since 2002. He has worked in various roles at Northern Arizona Healthcare for 17 years. He has two children, Maya and Ben, a tri-pawd dog named Joya, and is celebrating 31 years of marriage to his wife, Lisa. His favorite thing about CLS is how the community comes together to help and support those in need or going through hard times or even to assure its members children are able to have special Jewish experiences.

Jonathan Netzky
Member at Large

Jonathan grew up north of Chicago and moved to Flagstaff in 2009 with his wife Jennifer, based on the notion of wanting to live somewhere that most people come to vacation outdoors.

Jonathan has a diverse background in engineering, sustainable systems design and entrepreneurship.

He has been applying his skills at WL Gore since 2022 supporting a variety of specialty manufacturing processes. Jonathan and his family love the diversity that drives the strength of the CLS community. They love participating in it through frequently attending Shirei Sabbats and Mitzvah Days.

Joan Rosenbaum
Member at Large

Joan was born in Parris Island, South Carolina - a middle child between two sets of fraternal twins. She grew up in New York and New Jersey, and spent most of her adult life in Illinois. She taught for ten years at Illinois State University, College of Business, Department of Accounting, where she met her husband to be, now of 22 years. They moved West to follow a career path, eventually retiring in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Participating in the Jewish Community of Flagstaff attracted them to remain in Flagstaff. There were many opportunities to meet, help, serve, and continue to grow with the community. Their blended family of three sons and six grandchildren enjoy the many blessings offered by being in Flagstaff. CLS reaches out to people in a positive way by being inclusive, caring and supportive. There are many opportunities to “signup and show up“ and build new friendships.

Rachel Sturm
Member at Large

Originally from New York, Rachel Sturm has called Arizona her home for over 50 years and has been a Flagstaff resident since attending and graduating from Northern Arizona University in 1990. She has served our CLS community over the years as Religious School Parent-Tot leader, K-1 teacher and School Coordinator, Temple Administrator, Sisterhood Member and previous Board Member. Additionally, she has absolutely loved being a singer in the CLS Friday Night Live service for many years.

Working full-time for Northern Arizona Healthcare keeps her extremely busy but she still makes time for hobbies to include hiking with their two large dogs, playing Mahjong or scrapbooking cherished memories.

Congregation Lev Shalom has been a warm, inviting and supportive community for Rachel and her husband Joe as well as their two beautiful daughters. As a current Board Member, her hope is to help CLS continue to thrive as a vibrant and inclusive part of our local Jewish community.
